Reports: Shomurodov Set for Istanbul Basaksehir Loan

After shipping Tammy Abraham off to Besiktas for a €17 million transfer earlier this week, Roma is ready to send another forward to Türkiye. Eldor Shomurodov, who struggled to find his place with the Giallorossi after arriving from Genoa in 2021, had a brief resurgence under Claudio Ranieri last spring, scoring five goals and providing four assists in all competitions in 2025.
Unfortunately for Shomurodov, all the goodwill he accrued last spring won’t guarantee him a place in new manager Gian Piero Gasperini’s rotation for the upcoming season. While Roma is likely to add another forward to support Artem Dovbyk, all signs indicate that Shomurodov will continue his career outside Italy.
Earlier today, Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Roma and Istanbul Basaksehir are negotiating a loan deal for the 30-year-old Uzbekistan international. According to Di Marzio, Shomurodov has already agreed to the move, while the two clubs are hammering out a loan that will become permanent based on certain conditions.
It’s unfortunate that Shomurodov won’t be able to build on his work from last spring, but with Uzbekistan now officially qualified for the 2026 World Cup, Shomurodov will need all the playing time he can get before next summer to ensure a successful debut on the game’s biggest stage.
Update:
According to Di Marzio, Basaksehir will pay €3 million in loan fees, €3 million to make the move permanent (based on certain conditions), and an additional €1 million in potential bonuses. Tally it up, and Roma can net €7 million from this sale.
