Red Sox Reportedly ‘No Longer Entertaining’ Jarren Duran Trade Talks

The Boston Red Sox traded away one of their former All-Star players earlier this season in Rafael Devers. According to a recent report, though, it doesn’t sound like they will be trading away another former All-Star ahead of the trade deadline.
While the Red Sox, who are firmly in the American League wild card race, are intent on being buyers at the deadline, a crunch of outfielders led to Jarren Duran seeing his name pop up in trade rumors over the past few weeks.
A deal involving Duran never seemed to be all that likely, and those odds dwindled even further when Marcelo Mayer hit the injured list with a wrist injury last week. Sure enough, reports have indicated that Boston is no longer taking trade calls for Duran.
“Multiple major league sources have said that the Red Sox are no longer entertaining the idea of trading Jarren Duran, which is an obvious step in the right direction in the eyes of this current clubhouse,” Rob Bradford of WEEI reported on Monday.
With Mayer out, the Red Sox are expected to play Ceddanne Rafaela at second base more, which would allow Duran, Wilyer Abreu and Roman Anthony to all start on a nightly basis. This further solidifies a report from Bob Nightengale of USA Today that claimed the Red Sox have “no plans” to trade Duran.

Duran is turning in another strong season for Boston, as he’s hitting .259 with nine home runs, 55 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. He’s also leading the American League with 12 triples, with only Corbin Carroll of the Arizona Diamondbacks coming in ahead of him in that category.
Even with this development, the Red Sox are expected to be busy at the trade deadline. They are reportedly targeting pitching help for both their starting rotation and bullpen, while also looking for a right-handed bat who can play first base.
For now, rumors are still circling around Boston, which will likely continue until the deadline strikes on Thursday at 6 p.m. ET. However, with this report, it seems like the Duran trade rumors can finally be put to bed.
