Leslie Sykes signs off from ABC7 with final newscast Tuesday

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — We said goodbye to our morning news anchor Leslie Sykes, who is retiring after more than three decades at ABC7.
Celebrations during Tuesday morning’s newscasts included interviews with Leslie’s sister and colleagues as we bade farewell to a beloved L.A. icon.
Asked by fellow ABC7 news anchor Jovana Lara how she’s feeling about retirement, Leslie replied: “Well, I feel great. I guess it is bittersweet because I’ve known everybody here — this has been so familiar, with all my friends and everything.
Our beloved longtime morning anchor Leslie Sykes has decided to retire after more than three incredible decades at ABC7.
“It’s fun to come in and talk about the stories of the day and chop it up with everybody and gossip,” Leslie said. “It’s a fascinating career. There’s never a dull moment.”
And what was it like for Leslie’s older sister, growing up with her?
“Oh my goodness,” said Daphne Sykes. “She’s feminine, she’s a woman, she’s a lady, she’s lovely. However, Leslie is like the younger brother I never had. That is really what Les is. Les is just full of life and verve, just like you see her right now.”
Flanked by Leslie and her morning news colleagues, ABC7’s Rachel Brown noted: “We’re all such good friends, and that’s what made the work relationship so great.
“We hang out outside of work,” Brown added. “Disney. We’re swimming in her pool. We’re going out to dinner. We’re shopping. I think we’re sending each other funny TikToks more than anything. It’s just made every day so much fun and memorable. And that’s why it’s going to be so hard for us to say goodbye.”
