Jaguars make trade with Saints, acquire veteran DT Khalen Saunders
The Jacksonville Jaguars are boosting their defensive tackle depth, making a trade with the Saints for DT Khalen Saunders.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have made a trade.
According to Tom Pelissero, the Jaguars are acquiring veteran defensive tackle Khalen Saunders from the New Orleans Saints.
At this time, it has not been reported what the Jaguars are sending back to New Orleans.
Saunders was a third-round pick in 2019 by the Kansas City Chiefs out of Western Illinois. After spending his first four seasons with the Chiefs–and winning two Super Bowls–Saunders has spent the last two seasons with the Saints. In his career, he has appeared in 68 games and made 32 starts.
Over the last three seasons, Saunders has averaged 467 snaps per year. His primary role has come as a run defender in the middle of the defense.
The Jaguars’ defensive tackle position was one of the big unknowns coming into training camp after no major additions were made to that unit during the offseason. Adding to that uncertainty is that Arik Armstead and Maason Smith have yet to practice during training camp.
