More than 28 years since their last meeting as Premier League opponents, Sunderland and Nottingham Forest will collide in England’s top flight on Saturday. Two former mainstays of the first tier will get reacquainted at the City Ground, where host Forest is seeking to end a run of four straight games without a win.

The Reds bagged a 3-1 win over Brentford on the opening weekend of the new campaign, but have had to endure a drought in results since then. Sunderland, on the other hand, continues to impress in its return to the Premier League and is undefeated in four, travelling to Nottingham.

The most recent of those saw the Black Cats bag a 1-1 draw at home to Aston Villa on Sunday despite being reduced to 10 men in the first half. Reinildo Mandava received a straight red for a petulant kick on Villa scorer Matty Cash, and the Brazilian will be suspended for Saturday’s away trip as a result.

Arthur Masuaka or Dan Ballard will be the favorites to replace him in Regis Le Bris’ XI, though the manager may be reluctant to make other changes from the valiant side that earned a point against Villa.
