While Derek Jeter was stuck at work, he was alerted live on air that he was missing his child’s parent-teacher conference.
The five-time World Series champion and retired professional baseball player, 51, was hilariously interrupted during a live broadcast on Tuesday, Oct. 7, when his phone rang. Jeter was completing his Fox MLB analyst duties on the pregame show for the Mariners-Tigers game that was pushed back three hours due to rain in Detroit.
Jeter, who shares his four kids — Bella Raine, 8, Story Grey, 6, River Rose, 3, and Kaius, 2 — with wife Hannah Davis Jeter, played it off by saying he was just missing a parent-teacher conference. “Sorry. It’s a rain delay. I had a parent-teacher conference that I’m going to miss. So, sorry guys,” he said, switching off his phone.
“Take it, take it!” former Red Sox player David Ortiz told Jeter.

“I might,” Jeter responded.
“Derek has a parent-teacher conference to go to, so we’re going to take a break. Well I mean, we weren’t supposed to be on the air. You’re right. This is a surprise to all of us,” another announcer said as the clip ended.
Jeter and his wife, Hannah, spoke with PEOPLE back in September 2023 and shared an update on adjusting to having a little boy after welcoming son, Kaius Green, that May.
“It’s been different for me because I have a younger sister and then we had three girls, while Hannah had a brother. So having a boy is a little different for me,” Derek told PEOPLE. “But he’s been great so far.”
He joked, “He’s not mobile yet, which makes it easier, but I’m sure things will get complicated in the next few months.”
The couple decided to keep the news of their fourth baby quiet until after his arrival, explaining, “We’ve always valued privacy and continue to value that.”
“We wanted to wait and share the news til we felt the time was right, and that just so happened to be right after he was born. He was actually born on Hannah’s birthday, so we were excited to share that news,” they further added at the time.
That May, the couple announced they’d welcomed their fourth baby together, a son, sharing the news on Instagram. Son Kaius Green Jeter was born on Friday, May 5, Jeter shared.
“Welcome to the world lil man!!!@hannahbjeter,” he captioned the text announcement. Jeter also changed his Instagram bio to read, “Sleep-deprived father of four.”
