Police capture wanted suspect in deadly Scottsdale townhome attack

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — Police say they’ve arrested the man wanted in connection with a murder at a Scottsdale townhome.
Scottsdale police confirmed to Arizona’s Family that Matthew Dieringer was arrested on a probation violation in Phoenix on Saturday.
The arrest comes just days after 68-year-old Frank Quaranta was killed at his house near 68th Street and McDowell Road in what was described by detectives as a targeted attack. Police say that he had obvious signs of blunt force trauma.
Investigators learned that Dieringer had been living with the victim for the past few months leading up to his death.
Earlier in the week, law enforcement identified Dieringer as the suspect. He was described as having a history of homelessness and known to be “manipulative” and “charismatic.”
Records obtained by Arizona’s Family showed a violent criminal history in Colorado and in the Valley, with previous charges for felony animal cruelty and felony theft.
On Sept. 6, a person called police saying they saw a man who looked like Dieringer near 13th Street and Indian School Road in Phoenix. Phoenix Police responded to the area and took him into custody just before 9 a.m.
Dieringer will be booked into the Maricopa County Jail for his probation violation. Police say additional charges are pending. His booking photo was not immediately available.
“I want to thank the men and women of the Scottsdale Police Department who worked tirelessly on this case. Their persistence and dedication made this outcome possible. I am also grateful to the members of our community who stepped forward after seeing our news release and provided the information we needed. I also want to thank the Phoenix Police Department for their swift and decisive action. This was a true team effort, and it shows what can be accomplished when our employees, our community, and our law enforcement partners work together. Let this also be a clear message: if you commit a violent crime in Scottsdale, we will use every resource at our disposal to find you, and you will be held accountable,” said Scottsdale Police Chief Joe LeDuc.
